This one one of the last plein air paintings I did this fall, not counting my trip to HIlton Head. I painted in the afternoon to see if the light really would be different and have than golden glow everyone talks about. It seemed like the sun just made everything shimmer with saturated colors. I am looking forward to trying to paint snow on location. Any tips for keeping your fingers from freezing?
This is lovely. I love the warm colors and the glow you were able to achieve. I have no advice for plein air painting...I like to paint in climate controlled comfort ;) Maybe I will be brave the outdoors this spring!

Boy, I'm no plein air painter, but as a northerner, I'd say find a window with a nice view in a room with a fireplace, but if you must paint outside, I'd suggest electric socks, pocket warmers, and snug latex (or non latex) gloves worn under fingerless gloves to allow for dexterity. Also, take a thermos of something warm to drink. And take a photo for reference for when you can't take it anymore. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOk I'll start looking for some warm gloves and maybe a hot pack for my pockets will work. We finally got snow so I have to give it a try.
